Although it may seem like adulthood is worlds away, the choices you make, even during your freshman year, will affect the person you become. Establishing and achieving goals during your high school years will help you secure a bright future.
learn how to set goals and achieve them!
Now that you are in high school, you should start thinking about your future. Where do you want to be in five years? How do you want to be living your life? These are all important questions to consider when setting goals. Before sitting down to create a plan, it is important to understand the difference between a short-term and long-term goal.
Short-term goals are ones that you will achieve in the near future. For example, if you achieve a goal within a day, week, or possibly a month, it could be considered a short-term goal.
Long-term goals are ones that you will achieve over a longer period of time. For example, if you achieve a goal within a semester, a year, or five years, it could be considered a long-term goal.
An example of a short term goal might be finishing your homework for the night. An example of a great long-term goal might be successfully completing the School Counts program offered by Millville High School and Cumberland County College. Successful completion of the program earns you free tuition at Cumberland County College!

Think about short-term and long-term goals.
Most colleges require at least SIXTEEN college prep or advanced classes while in high school. Students are considered for college admission based on grades and the strength of the program they have taken. It is recommended that students take the most challenging academic program in which they can be successful. AP and honors courses are recommended if you are considering a competitive four-year college or university. Being accepted into the college of your choice is an incredible example of a long-term goal.
