preparation is essential
A LITTLE PREPARATION GOES A LONG WAY. Think about what supplies you may need for school. On the first day of school, your teachers may give you a list of materials that will help you be successful throughout the semester. In addition to obtaining those materials, it is important to obtain and use a planner. Agendas have been purchased by Memorial High School and will be distributed on the first day of school. It is important to learn how learn and use your agenda effectively.
Know what resources are available.

Using your agenda
USE YOUR AGENDA EVERYDAY. Your agenda functions as a planner and your passbook throughout Memorial High School. Your passes are located at the back of your agenda and will be used any time you have to leave the classroom. For more information regarding this policy, please refer to The Key, Millville High School's student handbook. So please try not to lose your agenda / passbook.
LEARN TO PRIORITIZE. Get into the habit of writing down your assignments every day in class. Highlight each item in your planner in one of three ways - either with a different color or with a mark next to each entry. Some people like to use letters like A, B, and C, while others like to use symbols such as *, +, and #.
* The first color or mark is for things you MUST do, like finish up an assignment due the next day or go to field
hockey or football practice.
*The second color is for such things you SHOULD do, like study for a quiz or text next week.
*The third color is for things you WANT to do, like watching a movie.
TIPS FOR USING A PLANNER. Poor organizational skills can negatively impact your grades.
Your freshman year of high school is extremely important because your first two semesters will determine your GPA. Don't let a lack of organization get in your way of achieving your goals. Here are some tips that will help you organize the agenda you will be issued the first day of school:

Your freshman year of high school is extremely important because your first two semesters will determine your GPA. Don't let a lack of organization get in your way of achieving your goals. Here are some tips that will help you organize the agenda you will be issued the first day of school:
- Pick the right planner. All students will be issued an agenda that will double as your passbook. Use it and don't lose it.
- Name your planner. This may sound a little strange, but if you give your planner an identity, you may be less likely to neglect it.
- Make the planner a part of your daily routine. Review your planner in the morning during homeroom. What do you have on your agenda for the day? During every class, make sure you record your daily assignments and responsibilities. When you get home, review and reflect on your daily accomplishments and priorities.
- Fill in your assignment due dates as soon as you learn them. Write down your assignments as soon as they are announced in class.
- Learn to use backward planning. Use your calendar to record when assignments are due. Once you establish the due date, jump forward a few days and write yourself a reminder that your deadline is approaching.
- Use a color-coded system. Go back and review the suggested color-coded system above.
- Put everything in your planner. Learn how to manage your time. By recording everything in your planner, you may just start to realize the true value of your time.
- Use flags and post-its. There are several products you can use to emphasize information. Use a flag or post-it to record special reminders or obligations.
- Don't remove pages from your planner. Think of your planner as an official record.
- Congratulate yourself ahead of time. Write down words of encouragement along the way and promise yourself something attainable if you achieve your goals
Building a binder
It is recommended by most teachers that you purchase a binder to keep all of your assignments organized. To save space in your backpack, you may want to consolidate all of your courses into one larger binder. To separate your classes, use tabs to keep them divided.
